Gerald Maurice “Maury” Kieffer
Gerald Maurice “Maury” Kieffer, 79, of Watertown, WI passed away on January 5, 2012 at Angel’s Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, surrounded by his loving family.
Maury was born on December 21, 1932 in Mauston, WI son of Andrew M. and Margaret L. (Murphy); Kieffer. He was raised on a dairy farm and graduated from Mauston High School in 1950. Maury served his country as a member of the US Army, 1953-1955. On June 9, 1956 he married Gloria Schwedrsky at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mauston, WI. He graduated from the UW Madison in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science.
After graduation, Maury was employed at Lake to Lake Dairy Cooperative in Denmark, WI. In 1965, he began his 30 year farm lending career serving as Manager of the Watertown Federal Land Bank and he ascended to President and CEO of Farm Credit Services Madison.
Since retiring, he was employed by Eagen and Shorewest Real Estate in Watertown until his death.
Maury was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Watertown, WI. He was a past President of both the Watertown Lion’s and Agri-Business Clubs and volunteered as an eye transporter. He was a member of UW Alumni Association and WALSAA, the Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Science Alumni Association and served on other boards committees in Southeast Wisconsin.
Maury was a kind, gentle man with a keen sense of humor and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and was an avid Badger and Packer fan. He had a true appreciation for the land and enjoyed spending time in nature and on the farm.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, three children Keith of Ocononomowoc, Joseph of New Berlin, and Sharon (Mike) Pytlinski of Glenview, IL; a sister Mary (Victor) Elsinger of Middleton and Sister-In-Law Elizabeth Kieffer of Oregon, WI; four grandsons, Bryan and Daniel Kieffer and Andrew and Evan Pytlinski. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Margaret Kieffer of Mauston, a brother Charles Kieffer and niece Maureen Wilken both of Oregon, WI.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday January 10, 2012 at 11 am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church 114 S. Church St. in Watertown with Monsignor Daniel Ganshert officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Monday from 4-7 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 7 P.M. Burial, with Military Graveside Rites, will be in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Watertown.
