Frieda H. Bubernak, 91, of Watertown, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Zinzendorf Hall in Watertown.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with Father Patrick Wendler of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown officiating.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of the private memorial service. Burial will be in the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in Watertown at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the church or to the charity of ones choice would be appreciated. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com.
Frieda Helen Kern was born on December 3, 1923 in Andreasberg-Bohemia, Czechoslovakia to Alois and Emilie (Schnelzer) Kern. In 1940 she received nursing training in Linz, Austria. During WWII she worked as an operating room nurse. On August 8, 1950 she married John Bubernak in Regensburg, Germany. She and her family immigrated to the United States in January of 1951. Soon after, she began working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Watertown as a nurse. From 1959-1988 she was employed at Johnson Controls in Watertown, retiring in 1988.
Frieda was a member of the American Nurses Association, Ladies of the Elks, and St. Henry Catholic Church. She volunteered at the former Watertown Memorial Hospital and also at St. Vincent de Paul in Watertown.
She is survived by her two daughters: Irene (David) Kemp of Eau Claire, Mary (Rev. Stanley) Weinrich of Mequon; one son Joseph (Angela) Bubernak of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren: Daniel Bubernak, Erin (Mark) McCracken, Brianne (Chad) Stemmler, Kelly (Matt Hofstede) Kemp, Jeremy (Sarah) Weinrich, Jason (Elizabeth) Weinrich, Rebecca Weinrich; six great-grandchildren: Jenna, Elijah, Brett, Peyton, Lennon, and Dylyn; a sister Herti (Kurt) Voigt, a brother-in-law Rudy Schaefer all of Lichtenfels, Germany, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John on February 6, 2004; two sisters: Mitzi Schaefer and Stephie Riegler; one brother Alois Kern.
