Charlotte A. Schlender, age 91, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek.
Charlotte Annette Rundt was born on October 30, 1925 in Milwaukee, the daughter of James and Leona (Diedrich) Rundt. Charlotte was raised in St. Petersburg, FL., where she graduated from high school and Mound Park Nursing School as a registered nurse. She was employed as a cadet nurse at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. She spent her summers on Silver Lake in Oconomowoc where she met Donald Schlender. On March 10, 1948, Charlotte married Donald E. Schlender in St. Petersburg; FL. Don and Charlotte rented his parents farm in the Oconomowoc area. In 1956, they purchased their own farm in the Watertown area. Charlotte had worked as a RN at St. Mary’s Hospital and Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown. She was a member of the Homemakers and a 4H garden leader. Charlotte had enjoyed bowling. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Watertown and rarely missed a Sunday service. Charlotte was a volunteer with the church’s Ladies Aid and the Watertown Senior Center.
The Lord blessed them with five children and sixty-eight years of marriage . She is survived by two daughters, Annette (Ron) Benninger of Reeseville; Ellen Bohn of Watertown; two sons, Dennis (Val) Schlender of Mt. Horeb; Duane (Mary) Schlender of Holmen; twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, a brother, James (Dr. Margaret Robling) Rundt of Chicago, IL, and a sister, Rosemary Lakey of Weaverville, NC. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don on September 18, 2016, her son Neil Schlender and a sister; Geraldine Rundt.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 14, 2017 at 1 pm at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Anthony Schultz and Rev. Mark Gartner officiating. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from Noon until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or Lakeside Lutheran High School. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.
