Stuart was born in Helenville on May 23, 1917, son of Herman and Olga (Maurer) Schilling. He graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the U.S. Army, Western Pacific Theater (Philippines and New Guinea), during World War II.
On June 28, 1942, he married Eleanor Bartel at Dr. Martin Luther Church in Oconomowoc. Stuart worked as an accountant at the former Syncromatic Corp and the former Village Blacksmith, both in Watertown.
Stuart was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Helenville. He was also a member of the Watertown American Legion Post #189 and the VFW Post #3056.
Stuart and Eleanor enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane (Robert “Bob”) Zwieg of Watertown; three grandchildren, Allen Zwieg of Sheboygan, Brian (Shelley) Zwieg of Denmark, Trisha Zwieg of Milwaukee; two great grandchildren, Caitlyn and Nathanael Zwieg, as well as other relatives and friends.
Stuart was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Eleanor, on August 17, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16th at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Helenville with Rev. James Werner of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, officiating. Burial, with Graveside Military Rites, will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Helenville.
Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Lakeside Lutheran High School.
