A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 2:30 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown, with Father Scott Jablonski of St. Henry Catholic Church presiding. A visitation will follow the Prayer Service from 3 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Innichement, at a later date, will be in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Watertown. Phillip Harman Gerloff was born in East Troy, WI, on December 5, 1933, son of Frank and Mamie (Miles) Gerloff. On August 30, 1952, he married Irene Garber at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington, WI.
Phil started working for Asplundh Tree Expert Co. based out of Burlington, WI in 1948. He worked for them as a tree trimmer and was relocated to Watertown from1953 to 1977. His career with Asplundh brought him back to Burlington until 1998 when Phil and Irene retired to Hayward, WI. He was on the Watertown City Council, serving as Alderman in the 14th ward in the mid-1960’s.
In his younger years, Phil loved playing softball. Phil always loved the outdoors. Being an avid fisherman, Phil spent most of his retirement days out on the Chippewa Flowage. On the occasional rainy day he and Irene enjoyed a trip to the casino. He also enjoyed deer hunting.
Phil will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Irene Gerloff of Watertown; his children, John (Teresa) Gerloff of Watertown; Bill (Bonnie) Gerloff of Green Bay, and Irene Gerloff of Shawano; four grandchildren, Jerry, Christa, Tom and Callie; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise (LeRoy) Dexter of TX; Beverly (Vince) Cullen of Trempealeau, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph and a daughter-in-law, Marie.
