James “Jim” R. Nehls, 74, of Watertown, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

James Robert Nehls was born on August 17, 1945 in Watertown, the son of Clarence and Helen (Renz) Nehls. He was a 1964 graduate of Watertown High School. Jim was extremely proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 - 1968 of which 14 months were spent in Vietnam. On May 16, 1970, he married Patricia Schuett at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. He had been employed as a tool and die maker at Western Industries, known locally as Watertown Metal Products, from 1969 – 2007. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Jim loved spending time at his cabin up north that he built in 1971 and took nearly 13 years to complete. He had a deep appreciation for the nature and beauty of the Northwoods.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years whom he adored, Patricia Nehls; sons, Todd (Penny) Nehls of Stephenson, Michigan and Troy Nehls of Watertown; grandchildren, Nicole Nehls, Collin Nehls, Kierra Nehls, Maison Nehls, Jordan Crawford, Tyler Crawford, Cheyenne Treuer and David Adams; great-granddaughter, Halle; siblings, Carol Meyers, Ralph (Sandra) Nehls, Beverly (Wayne) Herold and Barbara (David) Kesler, all of Watertown; siblings-in-law, Richard Schuett, Paul (Mardelle) Schuett, Bev Bailey and Phil (Deb) Schuett, all of Watertown; little buddy, Rossco as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, William and Agnes Schuett; brothers-in-law, John Schuett, Joseph Schuett,Dennis Bailey, Alden Meyers and niece, Christina Schuett.
Our final act of love and respect for Jim is to fully honor his request that there be no service. A private burial with Military Honors will be held at a later date.
