Virginia Grabow was born in the Town of Summit on May 25, 1920, daughter of Henry and Alice (Harling) Grabow. She was a 1938 high school graduate and on December 27, 1941, she married Harlyn Schroeder. Harlyn was killed on February 15, 1945 while serving in World War II.
Ginny then married Gilbert Zautner on December 10, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1988.
Ginny, along with Gilbert, owned and operated the former West Side Restaurant in Watertown for 32 years. She was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, the Sarah Circle and past member of the senior choir. She was also a member of the Watertown American Legion Auxiliary Post #189 for over 50 years, serving as past unit and county president of the auxiliary, a member of the Rock River AARP Chapter #3717 and of the Watertown Senior Center.
Survivors include her son, Roger (Shirley) Schroeder of Mequon; three grandchildren, Christine (Doug) Kennedy, Carla (Andy) Hilt and Cathleen (Brian) Huibregtse; nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Carson, Jackson Kennedy; Jacob, Kyah Hilt; Caleb, Parker and Hunter Huibregtse; her brother, Linten (Shirley) Grabow of Watertown and other relatives and friends.
Ginny’s parents also preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Terry Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be given to the church.
