Rev. Andrew S. Christensen, age 97, of Johnson Creek, formerly of Watertown, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Sunset Ridge in Johnson Creek.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church with Rev. Brenda Lovick officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the church on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to The East Koshkonong Lutheran Church. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Andrew Stanley Christensen was born on December 21, 1920 in Chehalis, Washington, the son of Andrew T. and Myrtle E. nee Persall Christensen. He was a 1939 graduate of Richland Center High School. Andrew received his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then went on to the Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. On August 27, 1943, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Steinhauer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madison. Andrew served on the Oakwood Lutheran Homes Board, Oconomowoc Lutheran Homes Board, Skaalen Lutheran Homes Board as well as the Rainbow Hospice Board. He also volunteered with the Blackhawk Girl Scouts and was a Chaplain with the Civil Air Patrol during WW2.
He served numerous Churches in his 71 years as an ordained Minister, including Immanuel Lutheran in Watertown and The East Koshkonong Lutheran Church in Cambridge.
A. Stanley had several passions. He loved his horses, either riding or giving others rides; reading, especially by the fireside, and traveling, which went though out most of the world. His favorite travel experience was with his entire family, taking his trailer in 1967 to Europe and the Middle East, where the family spent a month in Jerusalem, two weeks after the six day war.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Christensen of Johnson Creek; children, Ellen Christensen, Dr. Laura Christensen, Martha Christensen, Andrew Rubert Christensen and Hans Olaf Christensen; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Jan Goecke and Mary Jane.
