Harold J. Nelson, age 95, of Watertown, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Patrick Wendler officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with full military rites by American Legion Post # 189 will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Memorials are suggested to Knights of Columbus or the Marquardt Foundation. Harold John Nelson was born on April 11, 1920 in Mukwonago, the son of George and Stella (nee Waters) Nelson. He served four years in the United States Army. On June 14, 1947, Harold married Bernice H. Boos at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sullivan. Bernice preceded him in death on December 14, 2014. Harold was a dairy farmer in the Concord area until 1965. He was then employed as a custodian by the Watertown and Johnson Creek School Districts. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Watertown and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Johnson Creek. Harold was also a member of Watertown American Legion Post #189 and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping, crossword puzzles, playing the harmonica and golfing. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Harold is survived by his children, Judith Bickel of Watertown; Jeanne (Jim) Lapp of Oconomowoc; William (Denise) Nelson of Watertown; Donald (Diane) Nelson of Medford; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Nelson of Lake Mills; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Catherine Thurloff of Oconomowoc; sisters-in-law, Margaret Schroeder of Fort Atkinson; Alice Nelson of Waukesha as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Stella; wife, Bernice; a son, Larry; a son-in-law, Bob Bickel as well as brothers and sisters.
