A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Karl Walther of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or St. Mark’s Lutheran School. The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is serving the family. John Theodore Herzog was born on February 7, 2013 in Au Gres, MI the son of John and Hilda (Giese) Herzog. His early years of working on produce farms in Bay City left him with a life-long love for gardening. John was a graduate of Michigan Lutheran Seminary High School and then attended Northwestern College in Watertown. John had been employed at Lindberg Hevi-Duty and Bethesda Lutheran Home both in Watertown. He was then employed at GE Medical Systems in Pewaukee until his retirement. John was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown and a former member of the Toastmasters Club and the Watertown Conservation Club. John had also served on the Watertown Police and Fire Commission.
John is survived by four children; Faith (Roger) Degner of Ixonia, Bethany (Jeff) Mahan of Watertown, Mary Lynn (Rev. Joel) Voss of Centerville, OH and John (Kristine) Herzog of Des Moines, IA, ten grandchildren; Elissa (Matt) Zastrow, John (Gwen) Herzog, Mason (Nikki) Degner, Hillary Voss, Meredith Degner, Hans Voss, Jesse Herzog, Thaddaeus Voss, Jared Herzog and Jordan Mahan, three great-grandchildren; Britin Zastrow, Braeden Zastrow and Mackenzie Degner, a brother and sister’s, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
