Joan Louise Sommerfeld was born on November 4, 1937 in Watertown, the daughter of Ray and Esther (nee Bast) Sommerfeld. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1955. She went on to become a secretary at Brandt’s of Watertown. She married Ronald Mallow on April 24, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Joan was a dedicated community member and loved to volunteer her time where she could. She also had a strong faith that kept her busy within her church, including that of Altar Guild and Ladies Aid. Her friendships were precious for which there were many. She enjoyed being with them whenever she could, whether that was through the Fireside Club or playing cards with the many groups she belonged to. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her son, Gregory Mallow of Ashippun; daughter, Beth (Dave) Schmitz of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Mikala and Austin Schmitz; sister-in-law, LaVerne Krueger of Oconomowoc along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother-in-law, Kenneth Krueger.
Funeral Services will held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ashippun with Rev. Gary Tillmann officiating. Burial will take place on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Family and friends may gather at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
