Wayne A. Block, 87, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Lake Country Health Services in Summit.
A funeral service with military honors will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Rodney Warnecke officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 23 at Hafemeister Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and at the church on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Johnís Lutheran Church. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Wayne Allan Block was born on January 15, 1932 to Erwin and Martha (nee Bast) Block in Watertown. He was baptized, confirmed and was a lifelong member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Watertown. In his younger years, Wayne had many hobbies including: roller skating, ice skating, long bike rides, raising pigeons. Wayne was a 1951 graduate of Watertown High School, and worked at Koser Bakery until called for service in the United States Army in October, 1952. Wayne became a member of the 65th infantry regiment, 3rd division and was stationed at the 38th parallel in Korea. He obtained the rank of corporal and received the combat infantry badge.
After his discharge, he returned to Watertown and began working for Badger Music Sales and Equipment as an electronic service technician, where he remained until his retirement. On May 31, 1959, he married the love of his life, Marva Zwieg at St. Paulís Parsonage. After their marriage, Wayne and Marva were blessed with their only daughter, Belva. They enjoyed watching all of the activities their grandchildren participated in. Together they took many trips across the country, but their favorite place was Northern Wisconsin, where they went almost every summer. He enjoyed polka music, Pine Wood Derby with his grandchildren, and fishing.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marva Block of Watertown; daughter, Belva (Dave) Sorcic of Watertown; grandchildren, Blake (Brittany Stehberger) Sorcic of Watertown, Grant (Linda) Sorcic of Wauwatosa, Austin Sorcic of West Allis; brother, Floyd (Nancy) Block of Brookfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Russell in infancy.
