Eugene “Gene” W. Else
Eugene “Gene” W. Else, age 70, of Watertown passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, February 20th at Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek, WI.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 am at the Watertown Moravian Church, officiated by Rev. Barbara Berg, with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service.
Gene was born on October 11, 1943 in Watertown, WI, the son of Rueben and Margaret (Sydow) Else. He was married to Donna Thurloff on December 18, 1965 at Watertown Moravian Church by Rev. Thor Harberg. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1961. Gene served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was employed at Lake Country Foods (formerly Carnation Company) in Oconomowoc for 47 years. Gene was a lifelong Watertown resident and member of Watertown Moravian Church. In 1989, while attending a Diaspora weekend, Gene accepted the Lord as his Savior. He was active at CrossPoint Community Church in Oconomowoc and Creek Bible Church in Johnson Creek, and participated in many Bible studies and men’s retreats.
For many years, Gene enjoyed participating in bowling and softball leagues, fishing, deer hunting, traveling, bicycling and walking around Watertown, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed motorcycling and was a past member of the Wisconsin BMW Club, riding more than 250,000 miles over the years and attending numerous rallies across the country. He was a great fan of Watertown and Wisconsin sports teams.
Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna; their children, Gregory of Chicago, IL, and Michelle of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother Randy (Cindy) of Pewaukee; sister-in-law Carol (George) Altizer of Lake Mills, brother-in-law Gary (Mary) Thurloff of Neosho, sister-in-law Patti Thurloff of Hartford; an aunt Carol Kohlhoff of Watertown; many cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gloria and husband Eugene Griep, and Wendy Holzem; nephew Eugene Griep Jr.; parents-in-law Martin and Hilda Thurloff, and brother-in-law Robert Thurloff.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Rainbow Hospice and also express appreciation for the support from family and friends.
Memorials can be made to the Rainbow Hospice, Watertown Moravian Church, Creek Bible Church, or the charity of one's choice.
