Robert J. Johnson, age 87, of Watertown, passed away Sunday evening, March 3, 2013, at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Michael Jensen officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Watertown American Legion Post No. 189. Burial, following cremation, will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Sugar Island. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Marquardt Health Center, or the Watertown American Legion Post No. 189.

Robert James Johnson was born on July 4, 1925, in Mellen, the son of Herman and Dora (Schlies) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received the Purple Heart Award. On Feb. 3, 1951, he married Marion Wittnebel at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hartland. Robert had been a licensed cheese maker. He was a machinist for many years at Hein-Werner Corp. in Waukesha until his retirement. Robert was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, the Richwood VFW Post No. 7852 and the Wisconsin Disabled American Veterans Post No. 63 in Watertown. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He liked to do woodworking after his retirement.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marion of Watertown; three children, Kenneth Johnson of Farmington; Kurt (Rhonda) Johnson of Watertown and Kari (Rick) Behnke of McFarland; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Melissa) Johnson, Kara (Jake) Hagen, Elizabeth Oswald, Payton Behnke, Sarah Johnson, Raymond Behnke and Truman Behnke; five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Bob was the last member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Raquel Johnson; four sisters, Dorothy Kruzan, Josephine Johnson, Evelyn Bertillino and Ruth Johnson.
