J. Curtis Schuenke, 71, of Watertown, passed away on March 6, 2018 at his home in Treasure Island, Florida.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Reverend Todd Iverson officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery in one of 10 plots purchased by his great-grandfather in 1902 for $8.20. James Curtis Schuenke was born on February 5, 1947 in Watertown, and was baptized on March 25, 1947 at his grandparentís home at 522 N Church Street by the Reverend Otto H. Wonn, pastor of Immanuel at the time. He was confirmed on March 26, 1961 at Immanuel as well, by the Reverend A.S. Christensen. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1965. Curt began work in July of 1965 with the Wisconsin Industrial Commission Ė Workmenís Compensation Division in Madison. He began his banking career at Merchants National Bank of Watertown in July of 1966, which became Marine Bank Watertown in 1976. Marine was purchased by Banc One Corporation in 1988. Curt graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1977. He retired in 2002 to spend more time taking care of his mother. Curt worked part-time for many years for the Hafemeister Funeral Home.
Curt was a member of Immanuel for most of his life. He served on the Church Council and as Treasurer. During his lifetime he served on many different committees and projects. He was proud of the fact that two of his great-grandparents (on his motherís side) were founding fathers of the Immanuel congregation.
Curt was a former member of the Watertown Gymnastic Association (Turners) and served as hall manager. He also served on the Jefferson North Unit of the American Cancer Society as Treasurer. Curt was a member and Treasurer of the Watertown Chapter of the American Red Cross until its consolidation into the Milwaukee unit. He was a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge #666 for 31 years. He enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Treasure Island, FL, which prompted his permanent move there 5 years ago.
Curt was the last member of his immediate family. He is survived by his three cousins and their families, many dear friends and people all over that loved him for the wonderful person he was. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Eloise Ann Schuenke in 2008 and his father, James Charles Schuenke in 1983.
