The funeral service for John will be held on Tuesday, March 13th at 11:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Moravian Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Jane Wegner officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated.
John Edward was born in Akron, Ohio on August 24, 1949, son of James and Audrey (Richmond) Gruss. He was a graduate of Reeseville High School. On August 23, 1991, John married the former Cheryl Reichertz in Jefferson. He had been employed as a Pressman at Perry Printing in Waterloo for 27 years. John was quite a handy man and a “Mr. Fix It”. He enjoyed hunting, wood cutting, camping, gardening and was an avid Packer Fan.
John was a dad to so many who loved him and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children, Scott (Paula) Gruss of Randolph; Jeffery (Stephanie) Gruss of Omro; Angela Hellenbrand of Avoca; Frederick Luther of Lake Mills; Lori (Steve) Nicholson of Grand Marsh; twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild; six brothers, Dave (Faith) Gruss, Jerry Gruss, Harvey (Elaine) Gruss, Richard (Rose) Gruss, Mike (Frankie) Gruss, Larry (Judy) Gruss; five sisters, Louise (Owen) Dunlap, Kathy (James) Starcher, Pat (John) Locke, Audrey (Ken) Kawlewski and Mary (Brian) Davies; two special nephews, Roger (Patricia) Weber of Oregon; Jeff (Jody) Weber of Marshall; his special family member, Kevin (Sherry) Bauman of Waterloo, as well as other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Gruss.
