Funeral services for Gilbert will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17th in Bethany Chapel at Marquardt Memorial Manor, with the Rev. Clint Burow of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood, officiating. Burial will be in the Richwood Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects in Bethany Chapel on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood or to the charity of one’s choice.
Gilbert August was born in the Town of Shields on November 27, 1916, son of Emil and Helen (Niere) Buedler. On June 14, 1947, he married Margaret Schmeling at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Gilbert farmed in the Town of Shields and had been employed at the Watertown Implement Co. and Hanson Brothers in Watertown, John Deere in Waterloo and at Aunt Nellies in Clyman.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood and a member of its church council, where he served as vice president. Gilbert was also a volunteer on the Town of Shields Fire Dept. He enjoyed reading, gardening, truck and tractor pulls and auto racing. Gilbert loved to cook, and eat too!
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Watertown; his son, Dennis (Sandra Theder) Buedler of Watertown; a brother, Clarence (Margaret) Buedler of Beaver Dam; a sister-in-law, Florence Buedler of Watertown; special nieces, Sharon and Diane Buedler of Watertown, Sandra (James) Brown of Eagle; a nephew, Todd (Jamie) Buedler of Watertown and other relatives and friends.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hilmer Buedler and a nephew, Allen Buedler.
The family would like to thank Golden Living Center, the Watertown Regional Medical Center ICU, Marquardt Hospice and Marquardt Memorial Manor for making it possible for Gilbert and Margaret to be together in his final hours.
