Ernest Victor Kubly was born April 29, 1927 in Watertown, son of Rudolf and Anna (Richard) Kubly. He attended Watertown schools and was with the class of 1945. On October 11, 1947, he married Delores Anton. She preceded him in death on September 13, 1985. On July 22, 2000, he married Jeanette (Ninmann) Kiefer of Oconomowoc.
Ernie served in the United States Marines.
He was a dairy farmer from 1948 to 1974, was a Watertown Police Officer from 1952 to 1955 and was a driver/supervisor for Loeb Advance Service from 1974 to 1985. He then retired and moved to Lakeland, FL. Ernie was active in the Foxwood Lake Est. Community where he lived and made many new friendships.
He enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead, putting together puzzles, playing dominoes and shuffleboard. Ernie liked to listen to polka music on WTKM-Hartford. He also enjoyed sports, the Brewers, Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, but he also liked the Detroit Tigers, because Lakeland is their home for spring training. Ernie and Jeanette enjoyed bird watching. He was a member of the Watertown Elks and the American Legion Post #8 of Winter Haven, FL.
Ernie attended St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lakeland, FL.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Kubly of Oconomowoc and Lakeland, FL; his five children, Linda (Robert) Scholtes of Plant City FL; Deborah (Lee) Altreuter of Watertown; Kathy (George) Wright of Watertown; Ernest (Patti) Kubly of Marana, AZ; John Kubly of Vail, AZ; eight grandchildren, Kurt (Trisha) Altreuter of Watertown, Michelle (Rob) Keller of Watertown, Jason Kubly of Tucson, AZ, Heidi (Alex) Ramirez of Marana, AZ, Adam (Vanessa) Kubly of Marana, AZ, Crystal Kubly of Marana, AZ, Michael (Denise) Moder/Wright of Green Bay and Ashley (Brian) Nordwig of Sussex; seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ernie was the last member of his immediate family being preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Delores, his brothers, Rudolph Jr., Felix (Doris), Fritz (Gladys), Walter (Loraine), Ray (Ruth); his sisters, Margaret (Paul) Hainish, Lillian (Ken) Tvedt and Anna (Herbert) Minning.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19th at 7 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with the Rev. Steven Pagels of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
