Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in New Berlin, Wisconsin with Rev. John Gawrisch officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Helenville at a later date. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.
Gertrude Lydia Schildbach was born on August 3, 1922 in the Township of Farmington, daughter of William J. and Clara A. (nee Reese) Schildbach. She graduated from Farmington Grade School and received a G.E.D. diploma from Watertown High School in her later years. On August 8, 1959, she married Andrew H. Oakes at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Andrew preceded her in death on December 22, 1997. Gertrude had been employed as a Receptionist at L.H. Gueldner M.D. Medical Office in Fort Atkinson as well as a housekeeper for Skilled Care Nursing Home in Watertown. She was a member of Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Gertrude was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking bread and pies. She loved to embroider.
Gertrude is survived by children, Barbara Oakes of Menomonee Falls; Donald Oakes; Allan Oakes, both of Racine; sister, Irene Radloff of Waukesha; grandchildren, Ryan Dombeck, Liz Dombeck (fiancé, Nathan Metzler), Andrew Oakes, Donald Oakes, Maureen Hodgdon (Jeff), Paul Oakes (Melinda), Bill Oakes, Teri Bealhen, Kathy Hess (Bruce), Allan Oakes, Jr. (Kathy), Renee Oakes, and Michele Oakes-Cisler (Dan); 19 great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara; husband, Andrew; son, Jack Oakes; grandson, Steven Oakes; daughter-in-law, Judy Oakes; sister, Helen Hesse as well as a brother, Franklin Schildbach.
