Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Anthony Schultz and Rev. Mark Gartner officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Relatives and friends may call at the Hafemeister Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Dorothy Alice Mae Fischer was born on August 7, 1935 in Oconomowoc, the daughter of Raymond and Grace (nee Kaul) Fischer. On October 10, 1953 she married Leslie E. Umland at Camp Chaffe, Arkansas. Leslie preceded her in death on January 9, 2011. Dorothy and her husband, Les, were foster parents to fifty-three children in Jefferson County. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Watertown and the Watertown VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy loved cooking and dining out. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Patti of Watertown and son, Christopher of Waterloo; three granddaughters, Sara (Chris) Adelmeyer; Ninfa (Raymond) Brown; Madison Umland; five grandsons, Matthew Bennett; Alexander Umland; Lucas Umland; Dominick Umland; Easton Umland as well as a great-granddaughter, Serenity Brown and a great-grandson, Raymond Brown. She is further survived by a brother, Wallace (Carrie) Fischer of Missouri as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Grace; husband, Leslie; grandson, Brandon Umland; six brothers, Joseph, Raymond Jr., Lloyd, Melvin, Donald and Marvin as well as five sisters, Gertrude Werth, Marilyn Bachler, Eleanor “Nora” Crish Charlotte “Dolly” Sterwald and Lorraine Freson.
