William A. Gutzdorf
William A. Gutzdorf, 93, of Watertown, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Watertown while under the care of AseraCare Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the
Rev. Brett Brauer officiating. Burial, with Military Graveside Rites, will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown.
Relatives and friends may gather to pay their respects at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, in William’s name, may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
William Alexander was born in Watertown on May 10, 1920, son of Alexander and Hazel (Brunner) Gutzdorf.
He was a P.F.C. in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 – 1945, in the European Theater.
On March 23, 1946, he married Eileen Zautner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.
He had been employed as a truck driver for Klink Distribution of Watertown for 22 years and worked as a custodian at the former Northwester College in Watertown for 8 years. Bill then worked for 11 years as a custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church after retiring, where he was a member. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Watertown; his five children, John (Sue) Gutzdorf of Plover; Timothy Gutzdorf, Thomas (Hope) Gutzdorf, and Robert (Cheri) Gutzdorf, all of Watertown; his daughter, Jean (Gary) Sterwalt of Watertown; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, eleven step-great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Donna) Zautner and Eugene (Audrey) Zautner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Grace (Dorr) Leiknes, Margaret (Palmer) Schmidt, Gladys (Elmer) Kosterman and two brothers, Alex (Bernice) Gutzdorf Jr., Leroy Gutzdorf and a brother in infancy.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Golden Living Center Memory Care and to AseraCare Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
