Mildred E. Schwanke, 98, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Dycora Transitional Health in Watertown.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Markís Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. James Backus officiating. Burial will take place at Stanton Cemetery in Stanton, Nebraska at a later date. Family and friends may gather at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, would be appreciated to St. Markís Lutheran School. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Mildred E. Wiese was born on March 27, 1920 in Winside, Nebraska, the daughter of George and Theresa (nee Voss) Wiese. She was baptized on May 21, 1920 and confirmed on May 20, 1942. On November 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Schwanke at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Stanton, Nebraska. They were married for 47 years before Lawrence preceded her in death on April 15, 1988. Mildred worked as a Stanley Home Products Dealer, managed Montgomery Ward Mail Order House and worked at Janís Restaurant in Watertown. She loved working, fill-in puzzles and playing Scrabble. She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers and cheering them on. Her true joy was visiting with her children and grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Schultz of Green Bay and Cheryl (Dale) Henning of Watertown; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends. She was further preceded in death by her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Myron and Rita Schwanke; son-in-law, John Schultz; sister, Margaret Trouba and brothers, Arnold Wiese and Ted Wiese.
The family wishes to thank the entire Dycora Staff for their loving care to Mildred for the last six years.
