Margaret A. Melcher, passed away on her 100th birthday, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 1st at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, W1949 Gopher Hill Road in Ixonia, with the Rev. Kenneth Ewerdt officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, in Margaret’s name, may be directed to the St. Paul’s Church Expansion Fund or to Marquardt Health Center.

Margaret Alvina Reichert was born in Necedah on April 29, 1914, daughter of Paul and Elsie (Koepke) Reichert. On August 23, 1932, she married Edgar F. Melcher in Rockford, IL. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1996.
Margaret and Edgar farmed in the Town of Ixonia on the Melcher Homestead for 36 years. She also worked in the kitchen at the former Northwestern Preparatory College in Watertown for 15 years.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid, the Ixonia Senior Citizens and a former member of the Ixonia Firemen’s Auxiliary, and the Homemakers Club (Evening Star).
For the last 20 years, Margaret was a part of the Marquardt community.
Survivors include her children, David L. (Janice) Melcher of Ixonia; Norman E. (Sharon) Melcher of Watertown; Deborah M. (Stuart) Schramm of Ixonia; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Reichert of Charlotte, NC, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter in infancy; two brothers, Lawrence Reichert and Eugene Reichert; four sisters, Anita Voss, Luella Draeger, Leona Rickerman, and Alice Staal; three sisters-in-law, Lorine Reichert, Cora Reichert and Irene Reichert, and four brothers-in-law, Larry Voss, Walter Draeger, Louis Rickerman and Art Staal.
