John M. Scheurman, 71, of Watertown passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Marquardt Health Center.
A funeral and memorial service will be held for he and his mother Caryl on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at noon at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with Pastor Nick Slater officiating. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will be held at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia at a later date. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. John Matthew Scheurman was born in West Bend on January 14, 1947 the son of E.G. “Jerry” and Caryl (nee Hill) Scheurman. John was an Eagle Scout and 1965 graduate of Delavan-Darien High School; he later attended UW-Eau Claire studying political science. He was the Student Body President of his class and very active in state and national politics during the late 1960’s. John served in the United State Air Force from 1969-1975 as a Staff Sergeant while stationed at Fort Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. On October 14, 1972 he married Sharon Hovel in Denver, CO. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2016.
John worked most of his career in the real estate and development industry, with Century 21, Brookstone Homes, and most recently Bielinski Homes. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling with family and friends, collecting antiques and tinkering with clocks and picture framing. He was a life-long Milwaukee (Atlanta) Braves, Milwaukee Brewers baseball fan, as well as a “colorful” and passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos. He was a member of Luther Memorial (Delavan) and later St. Michael’s (Hustisford), and had served as president of the council and governance.
John is survived by his daughters: Kara (Ben) Turner of Pewaukee, and Lindsey (Mike) Korsi of Watertown; grandchildren: Jaci (Danny) Castonguay, Jonathan Turner, Michaela Korsi, and Kaley Korsi; siblings: Nancy (Walter) Weeks of Hudson, Jim A. Scheurman of Camas, WA; grand-dogs Reginald and Gertrude, as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was further preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Juliet Jone Larsen. The family would like to thank Marquardt Hospice and Nursing Staff for the care he received and Highland House for the loving care and concern of both he and his mother.
