William F. Saniter
William F. Saniter, age 84, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Watertown Regional Medical Center.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Douglas Carter officiating. Burial will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia at a later date. Family and friends may gather at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. William Frank Saniter was born on March 17, 1933 in Watertown, the son of Frank and Lillian (nee Zabel) Saniter. Bill was a 1951 graduate of Watertown High School. On May 23, 1954, he married Shirley Gerbitz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a mechanic in Germany during the Korean War. He had been employed at Donahue Motors for 15 years, Sweeney Bros. as a shop foreman for 15 years and Bill Auto Repair for 3 years. Bill was then employed by the City of Watertown for 10 years where he was instrumental in building the equipment needed to begin the Watertown Recycling Center. He was supervisor of the Recycling Center until his retirement in 1995. Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown and the VFW. He was a gun and snowmobile safety instructor. He also assisted his son Cory in his archery business. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling. Bill enjoyed his morning friends at Zwieg’s Grill and Hardees.
Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Shirley Saniter; son, Paul Saniter; grandchildren, Skyler (Nicole) Saniter; Sarah (Tom Dehnert) Saniter; great-grandchildren, Eden and Paxton; extended family, Mikayla Dehnert, Kay Bliefernicht and sons, Adam and Andy; sisters, Norma Schumann and Charlotte Holt; brother-in-law, Donald Heggestad as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Cory Saniter; sisters, Ruth Heggestad; Evelyn (Allen) Bleise; Dorothy (Joe) Heiden and Sylvia (Otto) Heim; brother, Victor (Margie) Daugs as well as brothers-in-law, Bob Holt and Ray Schumann.
