Eugene D. Genz, age 65, of Ixonia, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012 surrounded by his loving wife and children at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services for Eugene will be Sunday May 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ixonia with Rev. Kenneth Ewerdt officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Ixonia. Relatives and friends may call at the Hafemeister Funeral Home on Saturday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials to would be appreciated to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills or to Angels Grace Hospice of Oconomowoc. The family would like to thank Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, Lake Country Health and Rehab and Angels Grace Hospice for the wonderful care Eugene received from them. Eugene Dale Genz was born on February 24, 1947 in Watertown, the son of Martin and Viola (Kroll) Genz. He was a 1965 graduate of the Watertown High School. Eugene served his country as a member of the United States Army serving in Viet Nam. On January 25, 1969 he married the former Dorothy Schmidt at Zion Lutheran Church in Clyman. Eugene was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ixonia and served on numerous boards and committees including the School Board, an usher, an elder and a member of the OWLS. Eugene had been employed for thirty-five years as a mail carrier at the Oconomowoc Post Office. He had also been the secretary and treasurer at the Ixonia Sanitary District #1 for thirty-seven years. Following his retirement he was employed by John Christian Landscaping for ten years. Eugene was an avid Brewer and Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. Eugene was very family oriented and loved spending time with his children and ten grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife Dorothy of Watertown; his children, Dawn (Brian) Liddicoat of Watertown, Becky (Doug) Messmann of Jefferson, Brian (Gretchen) Genz of Ixonia and Kiara (Jeff) Gray of Watertown, ten grandchildren, Ashley Messmann, Rochelle Gray, Arianna Liddicoat, Samantha Gray, Claire Liddicoat, Aidyn Messmann, Brandon Genz, Aeryn Messmann, Isaac Gray and Brielle Genz, four sisters: Arletta Lauersdorf of Watertown, Irma Schwartz of Ixonia, Doris Ruckdaschel of Fort Atkinson, and Lucille (Don) Kuehl of Lebanon; Eight brothers: Armin (Evelyn) Genz of Watertown, Gordon (Alice) Genz of Lake Mills, Frederick (Janet) Genz of Ixonia, Robert Genz of Watertown, Ward (Karen) Genz of Watertown, Martin Jr. (Christine) Genz of Pipersville, John (Vickie) Genz of Helenville and Neal Genz of Watertown numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Hilbert, a sister Isabel Kurtz, four brother-in-laws: Donald Kurtz, Richard Schwartz, Rolland Ruckdaschel and Elmer Lauersdorf and his father and mother in law Roland and Esther Schmidt.
