Shirley J. Mathison (Verley), age 79, of Watertown, WI went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 due to complications from breast cancer. She was born on January 12, 1937 in Madison, WI to Margaret and Frank Verley. Shirley married Donn Mathison in August 1958 and they have celebrated 57 years of marriage. Shirley was retired from Johnson Controls after more than 20 years working in the Human Resource Department.
Shirley loved tending to her yard, working in her flower gardens and feeding birds. She also enjoyed many years of playing Bridge with her treasured friends. Shirley was a member of St Johnís Lutheran Church in Johnson Creek, WI where she served in many capacities.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Donn; their 5 loving children Dawn Mathison (Jeff Brand) of Ft Worth, TX; Julie Krzystof (Tom) of Fitchburg, WI; Jill Hrabosky (John) of Cambridge, MD; Susan Feld (Jim) of Clinton Township, MI and Dann of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by her sisters Gwen Richardt, Beloit, WI and Sharon Finan, Springfield, MO. Shirley adores her 8 precious grandchildren and was blessed to have 2 great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings Donald, Myron, Kenneth and Virginia.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Johnson Creek with Rev. Matthew Smith-Laubenstein officiating. Burial will be held at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia at a later date.
Relatives and friends may gather at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Halyna Prokopiv and all of the wonderful staff who cared for her at the Watertown hospital, as well as Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek where she spent her final days surrounded by her loving family.
