David J. Schaefer, age 50 of Reeseville passed away on Monday morning, May 28, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 2, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Jorge Miramontes officiating. Burial will be at St. Henry Catholic Cemetery in Watertown at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Rock River Rescue, The American Cancer Society or Rainbow Hospice. The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is in charge of arrangements. David John Schaefer was born on December 13, 1961 in Watertown the son of Robert and Barbara (Klecker) Schaefer. Dave attended school in Watertown and was a 1980 graduate of the Watertown High School. On July 31, 1982 he married the former Shari Schauer at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. Dave was in partnership with his brother Jerry owning and operating Schaefer Soft Water in Watertown and Waupun. Dave was a lifelong member of St. Henry Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Watertown, the Rock River Rescue and the Watertown Archery Club. Dave loved to restore automobiles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery.


Dave is survived by his wife Shari of Reeseville, his parents of Watertown, three children, Eric (Sara) Schaefer, Kyle (fiancé, Ashley Riedl)) Schaefer of Watertown and Nicole Schaefer of Martinez, CA, Dave’s brothers and sisters, Steven (Jacquie) Schaefer of Madison, Linda Schaefer of Richmond, CA., Kathy (Dennis) O’Malley of Evanston, IL., Tom Schaefer of Madison, Jerry (Shelia) Schaefer of Dousman, his father-in-law, Donald Schauer of Watertown, his three sister-in-law’s, Pam Schaefer of Oak Creek, Lisa (Ken) Riggs of Watertown, Vickie (Dan) Kemmerling of Reeseville, a brother-in-law, Peter Schauer of Watertown, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Dave was preceded in death by a brother Philip, his mother-in-law, Mary (Sterwald) Schauer, his maternal and paternal grandparents and a good friend Clarence Latsch.
