Thomas “Tom” L. Doering, age 83, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Brett Brauer officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials would be appreciated to the church, Rock River Rescue, Watertown Baseball, The Roc Youth Center, or the charity of one’s choice.

Thomas Lee Doering was born on November 16, 1930 in Watertown the son of Herman and Mary (Wolf) Doering. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School and received his diploma from the Watertown High School in 1949. Tom then enlisted in the US Navy where he served as an electrician’s mate, aboard the second US Midway aircraft carrier. After his discharge he worked at various jobs and then as a carpenter for Tessman Brothers and then for Al Schachtner.
On February 20, 1960 he married Mary Ann Zurheide at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by Rev. I. G. Uetzmann of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. In April of 1960 he was employed by Wisconsin Electric as a lineman helper and became a lineman in 1963. In 1970 Tom was promoted to General Foreman in Delafield and retired as Operations Supervisor in Fort Atkinson. After retiring in 1988 Tom became an avid golfer. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and doing his own home repairs. Tom was a Green Bay Packer fan and attended the famous Green Bay “Ice Bowl”. He served on St. John’s Lutheran Church Council and then served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council as President. Tom was also past President of the Wethonkitha Club and the Watertown Country Club.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, two sons, Mark Doering and Mike (Michele) Doering; two daughters, Susan (Robin) Roe and Gail Oestreich all of Watertown, six grandchildren, Ben (Keri) Sterwald, Kelsey and Kyle Doering, Emily, Sarah and Jacob Oestreich, two brothers, John (Helen) Doering of Chicago, IL and Herbert (Betty) Doering of Watertown, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Chester and Elgardie Zurheide, a sister Ruth in infancy, brother-in-law, Eugene “Buddy” Zurheide, and a nephew Patrolman David Doering.
