“After a courageous 4 year, 3 month battle against cancer, it is with great sadness and through many tears that we tell you of the passing of our beloved Lissa – daughter, sister, aunt, niece, sister-in-law, cousin, and friend to many.”
Lissa L. Schwantes, 39, of Watertown, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at home with family and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Watertown with Rev. Father Pat Wendler officiating. Relatives and friends may gather at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor and memory of Lissa would be appreciated to the Watertown Humane Society, Paddy’s Paws (animal rescue) or to Rainbow Hospice. The family would like to give a special thanks to everyone at Rainbow Hospice, especially Christa and Emily. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Lissa Lynn Schwantes was born on September 11, 1976, the daughter of Ron and Mitzi Schwantes in Watertown. She attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1994. Lissa then attended UW Madison earning a degree in Human Ecology. She had been employed at Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA) for the last ten years.
Lissa was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Watertown. She was passionate about roller derby and was a member of the Reservoir Dolls team within the Mad Rollin’ Dolls flat-track derby league. She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Watertown Cardinals. She especially loved watching her niece and nephews at sporting events and other activities. Traveling, being outdoors, and trips to the family cabin in Eagle River were a few of her favorite things.
Lissa is survived by her parents Ron and Mitzi Schwantes of Watertown; sisters: Dee Dee (Dave) Delkamp, their children: Morgan (fiancé Sanni Valtonen) Delkamp, Brady Delkamp, and Raegan Delkamp of Watertown; Robyn (Rich Schmocker) Schwantes and Rich’s son Ben Schmocker of Watertown; brother, Andy (Jess) Schwantes of Cambridge, their children Nolan Schwantes and Easton Schwantes; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, friends and many furry friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Nora and Elmer Schwantes, and James and Margaret Brady, beloved cat Zoe and other relatives.
