Raymond L. Baumann
Raymond L. Baumann, age 89, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.
Raymond Lawrence Baumann was born on June 12, 1926 in Watertown, the son of William and Lily (nee Roth) Baumann. On October 22, 1949 he married the love of his life, Ruth Ninmann in Watertown, Wisconsin. Ray served as a Private First Class in the United States Army during World War II in Lansberg am Lech, Germany where he was tasked with guarding convicted war criminals that were found guilty during the Nuremberg Trials. After the war, he made a living as an assembly technician at Waukesha Engines for forty-five years before retiring. Ray will be leaving behind a legacy not only as a wry, witty practical joker, but also as a loving family man who also had an ability to fix anything, even if it wasn’t broken. His unique way of taking an everyday ordinary object, and creatively turning it into something extraordinary will be something his family will always cherish and remember. Ray and Ruth spent 68 years together, 66 of them married, with Ray describing his marriage as the “best days of his life” and that he “was the luckiest man in the world ”.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Baumann of Watertown; daughter, Pamela (Rick) Irwin of Durango, CO; two sons, Michael Baumann of Mount Prospect, IL; Mark (Channon) Baumann of Pensacola, FL; seven grandchildren, Eric (Sarah) Baumann, Justin Baumann, Rachael Baumann, Christopher Baumann, Lucas Baumann, Garrett Baumann and Jackson Baumann; two great-grandchildren, Adeline Baumann and Oliver Baumann; brother, Emery Baumann of Watertown as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers, William Baumann and Wesley Baumann.
The family would like to give a sincere thank you to the staff at Rainbow Hospice for their wonderful care.
