A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father John Schmitz presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown are serving the family. Jerry was born on November 2, 1932 in Menomonee Falls the son of Albert and Kathryn (Holzen) Schmitz. He attended school in Menomonee Falls and was a 1950 graduate of the Menomonee High School. On September 26, 1953 he married Joyce Berg at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. Joyce preceded him in death on Tuesday October 13, 2012. Jerry had been employed as a milkman for Golden Guernsey. He then owned and operated his own dairy distributorship in the Merton area. Jerry farmed north of Watertown in the Town of Emmet. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. Jerry collected milk bottles and milkman equipment. He loved to dance and enjoyed playing cards.
Jerry is survived by a four sons, Michael Schmitz of Granite Falls, WA; Ken (Pauline) Schmitz of DePere; Dave Schmitz of Munich, Germany and Terry (Ann) Schmitz of Lake Tomahawk; four grandchildren; Dr. Brett Schmitz of Seattle, WA, Necole Schmitz of London, England, Brian Vogel of DePere and Justin Schmitz of DePere, a brother “Father” John A. Schmitz of Ripon, a sister Betty (Arthur) Magnusson of Slinger and a brother, Don Schmitz of Thayer, MO; a sister-in-law, Evie Schmitz of Thorp and a brother-in-law, Francis Benzing of Sparta.
Jerry was further preceded in death by a sister, Anetta Benzing and a brother, James Schmitz.
