Albert “Bert” Sterwalt, age 84, of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at Noon at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Barbara Berg of the Watertown Moravian Church officiating. Burial, with Military Graveside Rites performed by the Watertown American Legion Post #189, will be at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Cremation provided by the National Cremation Society. Albert C. Sterwalt was born on November 28, 1928, the son of George and Irene Sterwalt. He attended Watertown High School and joined the Wisconsin National Guard in 1947. Bert enlisted in the Army in 1948 and served in Korea being Honorably Discharged in 1952. In 1953 he married the former Gretchen Gerth. Bert had been employed at the Otto Biefeld Co. in Watertown as an apprentice machinist and was later employed by Sentry Equipment in Oconomowoc for thirty-seven years. Bert retired in 1990 and with his wife lived in Leesburg, Florida for ten years, returning to Watertown in 2003. Bert was a member of the Watertown American Legion Post #180 for sixty years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at their trailer in Northern Wisconsin. Bert loved gardening and yard work. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Bert is survived by his wife Gretchen of Watertown, three sons, Jeffrey (Renee) Sterwalt and Gary (Jean) Sterwalt all of Watertown and Allen (Jerry Spearman) Sterwalt of Villa Park, IL. one grandson Michael Sterwalt of Grand Rapids, MI, a brother Roger of Hartford, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Bert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sylvia.
