The former Elna Laak was born on May 7, 1916 in Fergus Falls, MN. She was one of four children born to Emil and Martha (Sherman) Laak. She attended Trinity Lutheran grade school and Fergus Falls high school. On September 29, 1935, she married Raymond Tomhave. She worked for Western Union Telegraph Company and S&H Green Stamps Redemption Center. She and Ray lived in various places and retired in Watertown in 1983. Elna volunteered at Marquardt Manor and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir, and was a member of LWMS, and OWLS, and was a greeter at church. She was a member of AARP #3717 and the Funsters group.
Left to celebrate her life are four grandchildren - Sandra (Rev. Daniel) Marshall, Bonni (Michael) Boldt, Vicki (Rev. Andrew) Schultz, Rev Douglas (Kelly) Tomhave, sixteen great grandchildren – Ryan (Natalie), Bradley (Emily), Neil, Eric Marshall; Jennifer (Jake) Hill, Sara Boldt, Emily (Justin) Danell, Amy Boldt, Abigail (Scott) Georgson, Magdalen, Lydia, Philip Schultz; Henry, Grace, Claire, Eleanor Tomhave; a daughter-in-law, Janice Tomhave, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In death, she has rejoined her parents, two brothers, sister, one son Rev. Duane Tomhave, and her husband Raymond Tomhave, who passed away in 1995.
The family would like to thank Marquardt Memorial Manor and Marquardt Hospice, the nursing staff, the food service staff, the maintenance staff, and the activities staff which made the last few years comfortable and a special thank you to her physician, Dr. Cochrane. She felt you were all like family and she enjoyed having all of you in her life.
