William James Horton
William James Horton, 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Watertown following an illness. Bill was born on August 9, 1945, in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, the second son of Charles Edward Horton and Melisse Mary Stamper.
Bill was raised in the Watertown and Lebanon area until he left Watertown High School and entered the U.S. Army at the age of 17. While in the Army, Bill served in Korea and Germany during the early Viet Nam era. Upon returning to civilian life, Bill married Carol Ann Thurloff and had two sons, Jeff and Jamie.
Bill lived in Villa Grove, Illinois during the late 1970s working for an independent insurance firm. Later, he married Barbara Jenkins and became step-father to her children, Stephanie and Stacy. Bill then moved to Florida and eventually returned to Watertown, where he lived out his remaining days. He was an excellent cook, loved to be around family and friends, especially his grandchildren, and loved to play sheepshead with his brothers.
Bill is survived by his children, Jeff (Tammy) Horton of Oconomowoc and Jamie Horton of Washington state; step-daughters, Stephanie Lambrecht of Tuscola, Illinois, and Stacy (Jason) Nyenhuis of Hartford; brothers, Allan (Peggy) Horton of Watertown, Robert (fiancÚ Kathy Oldenburg) Horton of Summit Lake, and Larry (Lori) Horton of Watertown, and John Horton of Waupun; step-brothers, Dwayne Rhadans of Bangor, Wisconsin, Glenn (Patricia) Rhadans of Jefferson, and Dean Rhadans of Beaver Dam. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caroline Joy and Mitchell Lee, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Harold Rhadans, and an older brother, Charles Edward Horton, Jr.
Visitation will be held at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a service to follow, with the Rev. David Zimbelman of River Valley Alliance Church in Watertown officiating. The Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown are serving the family.
