Dorothy E. Volkert, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, July 5, 2016 at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek after a brief battle with cancer.
Dorothy was the daughter of George and Anna (Stark) Deppe and was born December 9, 1921 in the town of Portland in Dodge County. Dorothy graduated from Watertown High School Class of 1939. She married Ralph Volkert on May 4, 1946 at St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown after he returned from serving our Country in WWII. She was preceded in death in by her husband Ralph in October of 1990; sister in-law, Jeanette (Volkert) and her husband Tom Reynolds; parents, George and Anna Deppe; sister, Doris at birth and a brother, Lloyd and his wife Agnes (Polly).
Dorothy worked at the A&P in Watertown for 17 years as a checkout clerk and as a part time Housekeeper for Bethesda Lutheran Home for 8 years, retiring in 1989. Dorothy was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and a life member of the Riedeman Thompson Post #35 Auxiliary.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Richard and Teryl Volkert of Galva, IL; grandson Kyle and his wife Melissa Volkert; great-grandson, Jake; granddaughter, Kelly and her husband Matt Fargher as well as great-grandson Marshall. She is further survived by son, Ross and Rosalie Volkert of Sun Prairie, WI as well as two grandsons, Austin Volkert of Madison and Grant Volkert of Sun Prairie. Dorothy is also survived by niece, Kathryn and Chester Barbasiewicz of Milwaukee, WI; great-nephew, Scott Reynolds of Watertown; great-niece, Donna and David Spaulding of Florida; great- niece, Amanda and Joe Dietz of Cedarburg, WI; niece, Susan Deppe (Mc Kim) of Texas; nephew, Dan and Linda Deppe of Pewaukee, WI; nephew, Douglas and Barbara Deppe of Spearfish, SD; special cousin, Linda and Pat Fiene of Belleville, IL as well as many other nieces and nephews and cousins.
Dorothy would like to thank all her friends and helpers at Johnson Arms in Watertown over the past 20 plus years. Special thanks to Patricia Apenfeldt, Ivonne Griffin and Hildi Kijewski for their special help and assistance.
A very special thanks to the St. Marks pastors who visited Johnson Arms monthly with church services, the visits at Rainbow Hospice and the St Marks weekly TV sermons that she so enjoyed.
Thanks to all those who visited Dorothy at Rainbow Hospice and to the wonderful and caring staff who made moms last days there comfortable and peaceful.
Dorothy is now with the Angels in Heaven.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Michael Jensen officiating. Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of the service. Memorials can be designated to St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.
