Loraine E. Babcock, 97, of Watertown, passed away on July 4, 2019 at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown surrounded by family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating. Burial will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha. Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Loraine Elsie Babcock was born on July 28, 1921 in the Town of Summit to Chester Scott and Muriel Joy (Brown) Babcock. She graduated from Waukesha Vocational School when she was 16. She worked as an operator for the telephone company and then worked as a waitress for the Moor Mud Bath Resort and Spa in Waukesha. She married Louis Franklin Babcock on March 21, 1945. She was primarily a homemaker. In 1993, she began working at the Shoe Factory in Watertown where she was employed for approximately 10 years. She then cleaned offices and private homes until she retired in her mid-70’s.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. She loved to bake and experiment with cooking and sharing what she had made. She enjoyed spending as much time with her family as she could. She was very friendly and will be remembered for her smile. She liked blowing kisses and reminding everyone “not to get lost” when they left.
She is survived by her children: Carol (James) Alford of Garnett, KS, Betty (Dave) Schmidt of Oconomowoc, Rose (Linus) Wickert of Watertown, Louis (Annette) Babcock, Jr. of Hancock, ME; 18 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law Lyle “Duff” Erdman, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, along with special friends Al Zenk, Helen Lange and Toni Kleba.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughters, Sandra Noodwang and Susan Erdman; five siblings: Doris Kranich, Elizabeth Rockteacher, Chester (Bud) Babcock, Muriel (Babe) Peterson, John (Jack) Babcock; five grandchildren: Angel Noodwang, Nema Alford, Jackie Mitchell, Doug LaVake, Keri Wickert; son-in-law Ron Noodwang.
