Kenneth W. Wetzel, 83 of Watertown passed away on Saturday morning, July 15, 2017 at Heritage Homes Memory Care surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11 am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Peter Wells officiating. Burial with military grave side rites performed by the Watertown American Legion Post #189 will be at St. Henry Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9 am until the time of the service. Memorials would be appreciated to St. Mark’s Lutheran School, the Alzheimer’s Association, Rock River Rescue Foundation or charity of one’s choice. Kenneth William Wetzel was born on November 4, 1933 in Watertown, the son of Lester and Leona (Dobrick) Wetzel. Ken attended St. Mark’s Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of Watertown High School. He worked on the family farm until the age of twenty. Ken enlisted in the US Navy for four years, from 1953-57. He attended Electricians Mate School in San Diego, CA. and was assigned to the USS Helena-CA75, home port, Long Beach, CA. While aboard ship he was able to be with his older brother Don for two years. He was honorably discharged in 1957. On November 16, 1957 he married Dolores David at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. Ken had been employed at Lindberg Hevi-Duty for six years, and Wisconsin Electric Power Co. for thirty-three years retiring in 1997. Ken was a member of the “old” Better Friends Club and a life-member of the Watertown Conservation Club. Ken also belonged to Ducks Unlimited, International Crane Foundation and Rock River Rescue Foundation. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards but most of all watching his grandchildren's activities. He was so proud of them all.
Ken is survived by his wife Dolly of Watertown, four children; David (Patti) Wetzel of Watertown, Mary (Dennis) Holtz of Menomonee Falls, Kathy (Dale) Miller of Eau Claire and Ellen (Dell) Zwieg of Watertown, nine grandchildren; Olivia Wetzel, Luke Wetzel, Josh Holtz, Allie Holtz, Brentan (Brittney) Miller, Tyler Miller, Tanner Miller, Cameron Zwieg and Samuel Zwieg, two great-grandchildren; Ellie and Gunner, a brother; Dale (Ellie) Wetzel of Waterloo, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Phillip in infancy, a grandson Trevor Miller and a brother Don (Jan) Wetzel.
