Marilyn R. Hertel, age 79, of Watertown passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Marquardt Health Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Rev. Father Scott Jablonski officiating. Visitation will be at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Henry Catholic Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at St. Henry Cemetery in Watertown. Memorials to St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown are appreciated. Marilyn Ruth Reese was born on October 20, 1935 in Johnson Creek, the daughter of Irvin John and Leona Millie (nee Heine) Reese. She attended North Star Grade School. Marilyn was a 1953 graduate of Watertown High School. On May 12, 1956 she married William Hertel at St. Bernardís Catholic Church in Madison. Marilyn was employed by Ray-O-Vac Lab in Madison and later retired from Berres Brotherís Coffee in Watertown. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. Marilyn most loved to spend time with her family, including her beloved grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and always made holidays and gatherings very special with her wonderful food. She also enjoyed going on trips to casinos, Brewer games and family vacations, particularly the yearly fishing trip to Cherney's Resort in Minnesota. Her and Bill loved polka dancing and they made many dear friends and memories throughout the years.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, William Hertel; children, Pamela (Wynn) Schultz; Rhonda (Lance) Dopke; Judy Hertel; Brian (Bonnie) Hertel all of Watertown; Jeff (Tammy) Hertel of Franklin; Jill (Kent) Steinike of Milton as well as grandchildren Eric (Megan) Le Macher, Jason (Jessica) Schultz, Katie Hertel, Tyler Hertel and Bryce Hertel. She is further survived by sisters, Angie Vick; Yvonne (Larry) Schuett all of Watertown; Shirley Messimer of Whitewater; brother, John (Leah) Reese of Watertown; sister-in-law Mary Hoffmann of Haven; special friend and hairdresser, Chris Glavin; special friend and neighbor, Evie Kaczor as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Irvin and Leona; son, Terrence Hertel; sisters, Myrtle (Irwin) Scheel; Norma (Art) Schlesner; Lorraine (Raymond) Peirick; brother, Howard (Doris) Reese; parents-in-law William and Jeanette Hertel as well as brothers-in-law, Don Vick and Gerald Hoffmann.
