Maxine M. Welch, 89, of Watertown, passed away at her home on Friday morning, July 20, 2012, following a lingering illness.
Funeral services for Maxine will be held on Tuesday at noon at the Christ United Methodist Church in Watertown with Rev. Ron Kral officiating. Entombment will be at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to Marquardt Hospice, the Watertown Humane Society or the Christ United Methodist Church.
Maxine’s family would like to thank Angie, Heidi and Jenny and the staff of Marquardt Hospice for the care and support they received during her illness.
The former Maxine Mary Gray was born in West Allis on June 8, 1923, daughter of Sylvester and Frieda (White) Gray. Maxine was a 1941 graduate of Bay View High School in Milwaukee. On Feb. 13, 1946, she married William Welch in Milwaukee. Maxine had been employed at the Wisconsin Telephone Company and L.L. Cook, both in Milwaukee. Maxine and her husband owned and operated the former Como Photo Store in Watertown.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Watertown and a 50 year member of the choir. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Women and served on various boards and committees in the church. Maxine was an avid reader; she enjoyed traveling and loved cats.
Survivors include her husband, Bill, of Watertown; her two children, Kristine (John) Coughlin of Watertown and James Welch of Madison; four grandchildren, Daniel (Kelli Rae) Coughlin, Ryan (Alex) Coughlin, Will Welch, Allison (Kurt) Pedersen; two great-grandchildren, Freya Pedersen and Signe Pedersen; her good friend, Mary Ellen Grosskopf of Watertown, as well as other relatives and friends.
Maxine was the last member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Sean Coughlin; a granddaughter, Abigail Welch, in infancy; a sister, Marjorie Graves; a brother, Curtis Gray; and a daughter-in-law, Monika Welch.
