Wallace “Wally” Sterwald, age 80 of Watertown, passed away on Thursday afternoon July 25, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday August 4, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Watertown Moravian Church in Watertown with the Rev. Barbara Berg officiating. Military Rites will be provided. A private burial will be at a later date at the Watertown Moravian Cemetery in Watertown. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Rainbow Hospice or to the Sterwald Family. The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is serving the family. Wallace Henry Sterwald was born on August 11, 1932 in Watertown, the son of William Sr. and Sadie (Griep) Sterwald. Wallace was a member of the US Army serving during the Korean War. On July 21, 1956 he married the former Norma Schwenkner at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Wally had been employed as a welder most of his life. He retired in 1998 from A.P.V. Crepaco in Lake Mills. Wally was a member of the Watertown Moravian Church and American Legion Post #189. He enjoyed woodworking, and could make or fix anything. He also loved gardening, hunting and fishing, the outdoors, and being surrounded by his family for a barbecue.
Wally is survived by his wife Norma of Watertown, five children, Douglas (Joni) Sterwald of Watertown, Wanda (R.J.) Mueller of Orlando, FL., Daniel (Barb) Sterwald of Rubicon, Dennis (Rachel) Sterwald of Watertown and Ron Sterwald of Muskego, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a brother, John (Hertha) Sterwald of Watertown, three sisters, Frances (Donald) Vinz of Watertown, Donna Mae (Earl) Zimmerman of Watertown and Shirley (Tom) Barber of Iuka, MS., two sisters-in-law, Joan Sterwald and Myrna Sterwald both of Watertown, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Robert, Herbert, David, Russel, William Sterwald, and Ken Sterwald in infancy.
