Brent A. Schmidt, 82, of Watertown, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Time of Grace or Watertown American Legion Post #189. Brent Arnold Schmidt was born on September 23, 1934 in Watertown, the son of Robert and Elizabeth (nee Groehler) Schmidt. He attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Grade School and was a 1953 graduate of Watertown High School. He then received his Bachelor’s Degree from Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee. Brent served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On June 29, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lois Nistler at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Brent owned and operated BASECO Inc., retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #189. He volunteered at the West Allis Aux. Police for 6 years. Brent was a member of Izaak Walton League of America for over 50 years. He volunteered for Channel 4 Weather as an observer for 25 years. He was active with the AA Community and the Alcohol Awareness Group at St. Mark’s for over 30 years. Brent was well known for his chainsaw art and wood carvings. He spent 25 years wintering in Casa Grande, Arizona. He was a good Christian man.

Brent is survived by his wife, Lois Schmidt of Watertown; son, Jody (JoAnn) Schmidt of Wauwatosa; daughter-in-law, Karen Coopple of Casa Grande, AZ; six grandchildren: Morgan Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt, Jon Schmidt, Mackenzie Schmidt, Erin Schmidt and Brent (Aly) Schmidt III; sister-in-law, Delores Schmidt of Watertown, sister-in-law, Helen Spurgin of Illinois as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brent Schmidt II as well as siblings, August Schmidt, Elmer Schmidt, Rose Graf, Eleanora Piper, Wilmer Schmidt, Lucille Lenius, Margaret Hackbarth, Olitha Kipfmiller, Robert Schmidt, Martin Schmidt, Arthur Schmidt and Lloyd Schmidt.
