Watertown, WI
Service: August 6, 2016
Edward “Ed/Eddie/Oggie” Kohlhoff
Edward “Ed/Eddie/Oggie” Kohlhoff, 72, of Watertown, was called to his eternal home on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judith (Tester) Kohlhoff; son, Andrew Kohlhoff of Stoughton; daughter, Kara Ellis of Stoddard; grandchildren, Helena and Theodore Edward Kohlhoff and Anesah Ellis; sister, Susan Kohlhoff; mother-in-law, Sylvia Tester; sister-in-law, Vicki Brom; brother-in-law, Marty (Rosie) Tester, all of Watertown, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends, and his “Stoddard family” (especially his friend, TB).
He was born in Watertown on November 29, 1943 to John and Gladys (Shephard) Kohlhoff. He was a life-long resident of Watertown, where he attended grade school at Webster School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1962.He also played two seasons for the Madison Mustangs and enjoyed playing city league flag football, softball, and bowling.
On January 15, 1972, he and Judy were united in marriage at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Watertown.
He worked at Waukesha Foundry, in area construction for 20 years, and at Nestle Purina in Jefferson for 20 years, retiring at age 60. In his retirement, he enjoyed taking rides around town, going to heart rehab, doing crossword puzzles, visiting Andy and the kids in Stoughton, going up to the camper in Stoddard to spend time with Kara and Nesa, and spending time with other family members and friends.
He also loved sports, especially Wisconsin Badger football, basketball and hockey (many times singing along to “U Rah Rah Wisconsin), the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and NASCAR racing. He was also a huge fan of UW-LaCrosse football, where his son played.
With his portable stool and “the mug” filled with his favorite refreshments, Eddie was always ready for a good time. While he liked a good time, he was also a very faithful man, rarely ever missing a weekly or special church service. A life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he proudly served as an usher and head usher.
Until the very end, his sense of humor continued; it was his heart that couldn’t keep up. He will be missed dearly. However, we find peace in knowing that he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 605 S. 4th Street, Watertown, Wisconsin, with Pastor Brett Brauer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery following the service. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert “Bobby” Kohlhoff; his grandparents; father-in-law, Jim Tester; brother-in-law, Mike Brom; and nephew and godson, Nikolas Brom; also, his good friends, Otto, Merlie, Gordie, Pete, John, and others.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity-St. Luke’s Lutheran School, or the charity of one’s choice.
