Ruth E. Martin, age 84, of Watertown passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Douglas Carter officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the American Diabetes Association or the charity of one’s choice are appreciated. Ruth Ellen Fuchs was born in Watertown on September 16, 1930, the daughter of Herbert and Elda (nee Tiemann) Fuchs. She was a graduate of Watertown High School. On May 19, 1951, Ruth married Reynold Martin at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Watertown. They were blessed with seven children. Ruth worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Watertown. She later worked at Bethesda Lutheran Communities until her retirement. Ruth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. She volunteered her time at chapel for numerous nursing homes in the area for over 20 years including Marquardt Memorial Manor, Zinzendorf and Beverly Terrace. Ruth was the secretary of her Bible Class at St. John’s and was involved with the St. John’s Counting Committee. She enjoyed sewing in her spare time and loved to garden.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Reynold of Watertown; 7 children, Bruce (Carol) Martin of Watertown; David (Donna) Martin of Beaver Dam; Steve (Cheri) Martin of Watertown; Michael Martin of Berlin, WI; Vicki (Craig) Butcher of Janesville; Robert (Mary) Martin of Stoughton; Daniel (Pamela) Martin of Watertown as well as 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by sisters, Audrey (Eugene) Zautner of Watertown; Lucille (Larry) Ellenberger of Franklin as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elda as well as a sister, Carolyn Hallauer.
