Johannes “John” H. R. Verhoeven, 79 of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Patrick Wendler officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to the family. Johannes Hermanus Rudolphus Verhoeven was born on July 23, 1938 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, the son of Rudolph and Johanna (née Wulfers) Verhoeven. John served as a Sergeant in the Royal Netherlands Air Force from 1957-1962, where he maintained RADAR and communication equipment on base. On May 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Francisca “Fran” C. Christoffel in Almelo, in the province of Overijsel, in the Netherlands. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2012. John and Fran immigrated to the United States on June 13, 1962. He had been employed as a Field Service Technician at various companies. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Watertown and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Watertown Amateur Radio Club, call sign KA9OIF. John played a variety of instruments and was able to fix anything mechanical or electronic.

He is survived by a son, Rudolph "Rudy" (LouAnn) Verhoeven of Milwaukee; a daughter, Joanne (Danny) Rice of Madison; three grandchildren, Kyle (Megan) DeBlare, Sierra (Cory Gomez) DeBlare, Steven Verhoeven; three great-grandchildren, Braxton DeBlare, Jaxson Gomez and Natalie DeBlare; siblings, Carel (Ans) Verhoeven, Kitty Tuinder, Betty te Riele, Ben Verhoeven and Theo Verhoeven, all of the Netherlands, as well as other relatives and friends. He was further preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob Verhoeven and brothers-in-law, Theo te Riele and Dirk Tuinder.
