Rev. Robert "Bob" L. Schumann
Robert Louis Schumann was born on May 24, 1925 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Walter and Irma (nee Schultz) Schumann. He was made a child of his heavenly Father in the waters of Holy Baptism on June 10, 1925 at the home of his grandmother in North Fond du Lac, WI. On April 2, 1939 he made his lifetime vows of faithfulness to the Lord Jesus by the Rite of Confirmation at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, Wisconsin. His confirmation verse which was always a source of comfort and encouragement to him especially in his later years was Psalm 16:11 (KJV); “In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” He graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School (1943), Northwestern College (1947), and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (1951). On November 23, 1951 he married Doris Jungkuntz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Wisconsin. The Lord blessed their marriage with seven children.
Robert faithfully served the Lord for 49 years in the public ministry, which began as an emergency teacher and supervisor on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in Lower Cibecue, Arizona in 1948. He then served nine churches as a pastor: Timothy Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN (1951-1955); St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN (1955-1961); St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha, WI (1961-1974); Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Duluth, MN (1974-1984); Christus Lutheran Church in Delavan, WI (1984-1986); St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brewster, NE (1987-1998); Living Savior Lutheran Church in Asheville, NC (1998); Alpine Lutheran Church in Alpine, CA (1999); and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst, NH (2004-2005).
He is survived by his wife Doris and their seven children: Robert (Jana), James (Sandra), Daniel (Deborah), Gina Dunham, Margaret Melberg, Mary (Jerry) Pickering, and Sarah (Howard) Burgess; his brother Walter (Joyce) Schumann; his sister Gena Barenz; 23 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Rev. Norman Barenz.
A funeral service for Robert will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Luther Preparatory School Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com.
It was on this past Wednesday afternoon at Froedtert Lutheran Hospital that the Lord Jesus called Robert to his eternal home in heaven. The Lord Blessed Robert with 88 years, 2 months, and 14 days of life on this earth.
