LeRoy A. Schlender, age 73 of Watertown, passed away on Sunday morning August 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday August 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood, with Rev. Clint Burrow officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at St. Bernard's Catholic cemetery in Watertown at a later date. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to the family. LeRoy Allen Schlender was born on May 2, 1939 in Watertown the son of Oscar and Esther (Hoppe) Schlender. On May 2, 1964 he married Katherine Fendt at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Watertown. She preceded him in death, after forty-five years of marriage, on November 1, 2009. On March 19, 2011 he married Elaine Lynch at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood. LeRoy had been employed at Waukesha Engine, in Waukesha, for thirty-nine years. He had also been engaged in farming for over forty years. LeRoy enjoyed bowling, gambling, hunting, fishing and gardening, he also like restoring tractors. LeRoy loved family vacations and watching his grandchildren. LeRoy was always ready to help family and friends in need.
LeRoy is survived by his wife Elaine of Watertown, a daughter Debra (Michael) Hoefler of Watertown, five step-children, Robert (Senida) Allen of Washington D.C., Ronald Allen of Indiana, Brian (Becky) Allen of Neenah, Heather (Jeff) Fortmann of Watertown and Raymond (Laura) Lynch of Watertown, three grandchildren, Ricky Bergmann, Andrew Hoefler and Bryanna Hoefler, six step-grandchildren, Aimee Allen, Brittney Allen, Benton Allen, Shelby Allen, Tanner Davis and Alayna Lynch, four sisters, Norma (Orville) Schultz of Watertown, Helen (Gordon) Campbell of West Allis, Judy (Alvin) Gudenkauf of Watertown and Dorothy Schroeder of Johnson Creek, two brothers, Milton (Nancy) Schlender of Juneau and Wallace (Louise) Schlender of Watertown. LeRoy was further preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Delores Schultz, a grandson, Spencer Fortmann and two brother-in-laws, Clarence Schultz and Jim Schroeder.
The family would like to thank the staff of Marquardt Hospice, of Watertown, for their loving care.
