Donald Timmel
Donald Louis Timmel, 87, passed away at the Marquardt Health Center on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 following a brief illness. Donald was a lifelong member and past President and council member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ixonia. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. He was born on September 19, 1930 to Angela (nee. Eske) and Alvin Timmel. Don was in the first graduating class of Oconomowoc High School. He married Phyllis Dobratz on May 17, 1952. Don enjoyed his love of music playing his trombone his entire life and making music with the Oconomowoc Legion Band, Jimmy Hartwig Orchestra, the Yankee Dutchmen and with the Variations. He was an avid hardball player with the Land of Lakes Team, a longtime member of the Ixonia Lions Club and served as the Ixonia Town Chairman for several terms. Don was also a driving force in the development of the Ixonia Little League and playing fields. He was a member of the Milwaukee Carpenter's Union for 40 years.
For 20 years he and Phyllis spent winters at the Good Life RV Resort in Mesa, AZ with the company of many Wisconsin friends. You could catch him every week playing Dixieland or Big Band music at local venues. Summers were spent in Fox Lake and was home of the annual Music by Boat tour that entertained home owners on the lake for years.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, Children, Gary (Tina) Timmel of Oconomowoc, Wendy (Tom) Lukes of Las Vegas, NV, Tracy (Jennifer) Timmel of Watertown. Grandchildren include Tyler, Kara, Dan, Cassie and Logan. Donald was preceded in death by his parents Angela and Alvin Timmel and sister, Marion Diderrich.
Visitation will be held at Hafemeister Funeral Home at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018. Funeral Service to be held at St. Johnís Lutheran Church of Ixonia on Tuesday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour visitation beforehand. A private interment will be held at Ixonia Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Johnís Lutheran Church. The family would also like to thank the staff at Marquardt Health Center for their care and dedication to Donald.
