Jeanne E. Thurow, age 86, of Watertown, passed away Sunday evening, August 25, 2013.
Jeanne Elizabeth Sommerfeldt was born in Custer Township, MI on April 29, 1927, the daughter of Herbert and Mabel (Schultz) Sommerfeldt. She was confirmed on June 16, 1940 and graduated from Custer High School in 1945. She married Edward Thurow at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scottville, MI on September 11, 1948. They farmed together, owned and operated a donut shop, soda bar, and a restaurant. After selling their restaurant business, she continued working as a cook in various restaurants until her retirement. In 1993, they moved to Watertown to be closer to family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a passion for baking and cooking for family and friends. Throughout her life she was involved in various church organizations and volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Shop. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Jeanne is survived by a son, John (Bonnie) Thurow of Watertown; grandchildren, Danielle (Gordon) Schmidt of Ixonia, Monica (Rev. Michael) Schroeder of Wildomar, CA, John (Katie Funmaker) Thurow of Black River Falls, Ryan (Jennifer) Thurow, Nadine (Jason) Preinfalk, Michael Thurow and Matthew Thurow, all of Watertown; 12 great-grandchildren, Christian, Jameson, Jonathan, Mathias, Quinton, Kiera, Elias, Alethia, Aaron, Anthony, Aedan, and Helena Jeanne; a sister, Shirley Newman of Charlevoix, MI; sisters-in-law, Darlene Viglietti of Scottville, MI and Betty Cheney of Ludington, MI; brother-in-law Richard Thurow of Scottville, MI, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Aldis Wagner, and a brother-in-law, Bruce Newman.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Marquardt Hospice, St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scottville, MI.
