Hafemeister Funeral Home And Cremation Service
Joyce Elaine Duffrin
Service: September 1, 2012
Joyce Elaine Duffrin
Joyce Elaine Duffrin, age 77, of Watertown, our beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with the love of her life on Wednesday, August 29th, 2012.
Joyce was born on September 8th, 1934 in the town of Leon, WI. She was the daughter of John and Florence (Jones) Raymer; one of nine children born to this loving couple.
She graduated from West Salem High School in 1952, and went on to get a degree in elementary education from UW LaCrosse, graduating in 1956.
On March 30, l957 she married Norman Duffrin in West Salem, WI. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage.
She taught elementary school in Prairie du Chien. When they moved to Watertown she was a stay at home mom until all her children were in school. Then she made herself available as a substitute teacher in the Watertown School District. She then went to work at McDonalds where she became a very familiar face to the many Watertown customers.
She was a talented seamstress and shared her gift by teaching sewing in the Watertown summer school program. Her children and grandchildren were always asking her to help with sewing related projects. We all knew we could count on her to do beautiful work and get the job done. She bowled for many years, most recently in the afternoon senior league. She was passionate about the landscaping, flowers and plants around her home. Maintaining the gardens gave her great pleasure.
Joyce was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Watertown where she served for many years on the Altar Guild. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aid. In addition, she was the treasurer for Church Women United. In recent years, she became a member of the Watertown American Association of University Women.
While her family was the joy of her life, there were times we thought her love of the Brewers was stronger. It didn’t matter what their record was, whether they had a winning season or one that was less than stellar, she was a loyal fan. In fact, all Wisconsin sports teams brought her joy including the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Many family gatherings were because of a sporting event.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane (Michael) Turke of Neenah, Bonita (Kurt) Zimdars of Watertown, Jayne (Todd) Barta of Watertown and one son, Todd (Amy) Duffrin of Fort Atkinson; seven grandchildren, Jonathon (Elizabeth) Turke of Madison, Kimberly Turke of Neenah, Stephanie Zimdars of Madison, Samantha Zimdars of Madison, Kirsten Zimdars of Watertown, Jackson and Carmen Barta of Watertown. She is also survived by her 4 sisters and 3 brothers; Sydney Raymer, Rosemary (James) Zeasman, Arlan (Daisy) Raymer, Robert Raymer, Janet (John) Rusch, Nancy (Dale) Mortimer and Dorothy (Merlin) Wehrs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Norman, her brother John Raymer, and sister-in-law Bonnie Raymer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church – Watertown with Rev. Terry Larson and Rev. Sue Larson presiding. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown following the service. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories of Joyce at the church on Saturday from 11:00 until the time of the service.
